South Korean President Lee Jae-myung rejected submissive diplomacy during a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, emphasizing that national interests must take precedence even as the nation maintains its vital alliance with the United States.

Lee stressed that South Korea must pursue pragmatic diplomacy to protect its dignity, stating that national interests are paramount and rejecting any kowtowing stance. While describing the US alliance as the cornerstone of South Korea's foreign policy, he noted that differences between allies are inevitable and should be addressed through ongoing dialogue, debate, and coordination.

These comments emerged during friction regarding Washington's restrictions on sharing intelligence concerning North Korean nuclear facilities. The dispute arose after Unification Minister Chung Dong-young publicly identified Kusong as a suspected uranium enrichment site. Washington reportedly viewed the disclosure as sensitive, whereas Seoul argued the information was already publicly available.

Despite the intelligence dispute and differing views on the disclosure, South Korean intelligence officials have maintained that broader security cooperation between the two allies remains intact.
