Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Anand Sharma stated on Saturday in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar bears a moral responsibility to step down following the alleged deletion of lakhs of voters' names from electoral rolls. Sharma made these remarks to ANI after offering prayers at the Kalibari temple while extending Navratri greetings to the people of Himachal Pradesh and the entire country.

Addressing the controversy surrounding the missing voter names, Sharma asserted that such widespread removals are completely unacceptable in the world's largest democracy. He emphasized that the issue is not about stubbornness, reiterating his call for the Chief Election Commissioner to resign voluntarily.

Expressing strong confidence in the judiciary, Sharma stated his full belief that the Supreme Court of India will deliver justice and protect the voting rights of citizens across the nation. Additionally, he defended the constitutional right of citizens to engage in peaceful protests, stating that preventing individuals from exercising this right is entirely unjustified.
