Korean police are collaborating with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to track down hackers responsible for recent cyberattacks aimed at financial institutions in Korea, according to sources on Tuesday. The Korean National Police Agency and other authorities initiated this cooperative effort to secure vital investigation data, including access logs and account details from major U.S.-based global artificial intelligence and cybersecurity companies.

This joint investigative measure follows a previous suggestion by U.S. cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, which indicated that a 26-year-old Chinese man originating from China's Guangdong Province could be responsible for the incidents. However, the named individual has denied any involvement in the cyberattacks. Sources speaking on condition of anonymity stated that local authorities are examining the possibility that different or additional individuals might be responsible for the attacks.

Police are currently analyzing the data utilized by CrowdStrike to determine the identities of the hackers, alongside documents that point to potential connections with a Chinese distributed denial-of-service attack group. When questioned regarding the ongoing collaboration with the FBI, a local police official declined to confirm specific details, stating that they cannot verify ongoing progress or whether cooperation is currently taking place.
