Former India spinner Ramesh Powar has emerged as the leading candidate to succeed Ajit Agarkar on the Board of Control for Cricket in India senior men's selection committee. The panel is expected to be headed by Pragyan Ojha, who is currently serving as interim head. The development follows the application deadline that closed on October 14, after which the Cricket Advisory Committee conducted interviews with four or five candidates on October 15.

Alongside Powar, candidates interviewed for the senior committee position included former India opener Wasim Jaffer, former Baroda players Connor Williams and Jacob Martin, and Mumbai's Salil Ankola. Powar previously interviewed for the junior selection panel and was initially considered for the chairman role before being co-opted into the senior panel. Meanwhile, the chairman role for the junior selection committee may go to Dodda Ganesh, a former India pacer from Karnataka.

Additional adjustments to the selection setup indicate that the panel will likely feature a permanent representative from the Centre of Excellence to provide insight into player injuries and availability, as demonstrated by VVS Laxman's attendance at recent meetings. Potential zonal representatives for the Under 19 panel include Arun Sharma for the North Zone, L Pawar for the West Zone, Deep Bora for the East Zone, and potentially Pankaj Singh for the Central Zone, while Parthiv Patel reportedly did not apply for the position.
