More than 1,500 people gathered in Mysuru on Saturday for the 'Pink Promise 2026' marathon, an event designed to promote breast cancer awareness. Participants of all ages, including children, senior citizens, and cancer survivors, donned pink T-shirts and walked or ran along prominent roads near the Mysore Palace, creating a striking visual display of public support.

The event was organised by the Bharath Hospital and Institute of Oncology (BHIO), partnering with Ask Mysuru and the Mysore Run Club as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Centered around the theme 'Every Story Is Unique. Every Journey Matters', the gathering featured 3K, 5K, and 10K categories to emphasize the critical need for early detection, timely treatment, and routine screening.

During the event, medical professionals and community leaders shared essential health insights. Dr. Y.S. Madhavi of BHIO highlighted the value of balanced nutrition, physical activity, and a positive mindset, noting that awareness campaigns should empower rather than frighten individuals. Meanwhile, Dr. C.P. Madhu from JSS Hospital raised concerns that many women still seek medical help at advanced stages of the disease, reiterating that early action improves survival rates. Automotive Axles president Nagaraja Gargeshwari shared that a collaborative program with the hospital has already aided over 40 patients with surgeries and aftercare.

Actor Krishi Tapanda praised the high level of community involvement and advocated for daily fitness habits. BHIO chief operating officer Gowtham Dhamerla encouraged women to schedule regular screenings and consult doctors immediately regarding unusual changes. He also called on corporations and citizens to contribute donations and corporate social responsibility funds to assist underprivileged cancer patients.
