As the second round of the third season of the Nepal Premier League begins, the defending champions Lumbini Lions are relying on clinical execution and tactical depth. Led by Rohit Kumar Paudel, the team aims to stay unbeaten and defend their title despite not having a star-studded squad compared to other franchises.
The Lions finished at the bottom in the first season but made a comeback to win the second season. Their overseas squad features Niroshan Dickwella, Shamim Hossain, D’Arcy Short, Shadley Claude van Schalkwyk, and Ruben Trumpelmann. Although other teams feature prominent international names like Moeen Ali, David Warner, and Andre Russell, Lumbini is guided by former national team skipper Rohit Kumar Paudel, who led Nepal to consecutive T20 World Cups.
Lumbini have already defeated the Sudurpaschim Royals in the tournament's opening match on Monday in a low-scoring thriller. This victory marked their seventh consecutive win in the tournament, extending a streak that includes victories from the previous season's eliminator, Qualifier 2, and the final.
Looking ahead, Lumbini will face Chitwan in the first match on Saturday. Meanwhile, other franchises continue their matches in the tournament, with the points table becoming increasingly competitive as teams battle for a spot in the top four playoff positions.
