Indian armwrestlers secured four gold, two silver, and 14 bronze medals during the opening two days of finals at the 47th World Armwrestling and 28th World Para Armwrestling Championships 2026 in New Delhi. This performance placed India fourth in the overall medal standings behind Russia, Kazakhstan, and Türkiye. The international competition marks the first time the championships are being held in India, featuring over 1,700 athletes from more than 60 countries.

The event was officially inaugurated on Thursday with Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju and Hamirpur MP Anurag Singh Thakur in attendance. The tournament is hosted by the People’s Armwrestling Federation of India under the World Armwrestling Federation.

India's medal charge was spearheaded by the Masters contingent on October 29, yielding four gold, one silver, and seven bronze medals, with Jincymol Sebastian winning gold in both arms of the Grand Master Women’s 80kg category. Additional gold medals were won by Yogesh Choudhary and Shoukath VT. Younger competitors subsequently contributed eight medals during the left-arm finals on October 30, including a silver by Jimmison Marwein and multiple bronze medals across youth and sub-junior divisions.

Beyond the podium finishes, 128 Indian athletes recorded 154 placings across 90 finals. The tournament also serves as a stepping stone for the professional circuit, with Yogesh Choudhary and Aabhas Rana scheduled to compete in the Pro Panja League’s Gold Edition II in Pune on November 28. Meanwhile, the right-arm Sub-Junior, Junior, and Youth finals took place on October 31, with live coverage broadcast by the official streaming partner Swen.
