India has added right-arm pacer Auqib Nabi to the squad for the opening three matches of the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand, which begins on November 4. Nabi will now join the team at the very start of the five-match 50-over series after initially being selected solely for the final two games.
This roster change follows the withdrawal of Prasidh Krishna, who was ruled out of the entire series. Krishna, who was recovering from a hamstring injury, was unavailable for selection after failing to achieve the necessary match fitness and requires more time to build up his workload before returning for the subsequent Tests.
Nabi was not part of India's T20I squad but was already in New Zealand touring with the A team. He played in the first unofficial Test against the hosts before being left out of the revised squad for the second match that began on Saturday, October 31. His addition provides the team with another pace option.
With only one ODI appearance to his name so far, Nabi made his debut against the West Indies in Guwahati last month. Following the first three fixtures against New Zealand, the series will conclude with the remaining matches as the team adjusts its lineup for the upcoming contests.
