India Announces ODI and Test Squads for New Zealand Tour with Key Changes

India has announced its ODI and Test squads for the upcoming tour of New Zealand, which will test the team's depth and selection strategy over a six-week period. The tour features five T20Is, five ODIs, two Tests, and three multi-day A games, beginning on October 22 with the T20I leg in Christchurch. This marks the first series selected by a committee led by interim chief Pragyan Ojha.

The squad selections reveal notable changes and omissions across formats. Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been recalled to the T20I squad after nearly four years away from international cricket, while Ravindra Jadeja has been omitted from the ODI setup, with Axar Patel taking his place. Wicketkeeper-batter Kumar Kushagra received his maiden international call-up for the final two ODIs. Meanwhile, players like Mohammed Shami and Sarfaraz Khan missed out entirely across squads, and Yashasvi Jaiswal has been restricted to red-ball preparation through India A matches.

The team management has prioritized the two-Test series as India's qualification for the World Test Championship final remains in balance. Jasprit Bumrah will feature exclusively in the red-ball leg to manage his workload, and players like Nitish Kumar Reddy and Kuldeep Yadav will handle heavy workloads across multiple formats. The demanding schedule will challenge India tactically and logistically as teams build toward the 2027 World Cup.
