Delhi Capitals appointed former Sri Lanka fast bowler Chaminda Vaas as the team's fast-bowling coach ahead of IPL 2027. The announcement was made on Saturday in Chennai. Vaas, a 1996 World Cup winner and one of Sri Lanka’s most successful bowlers with 355 wickets in 111 Test matches and 400 wickets in One Day Internationals, steps into the role to replace Munaf Patel, who served as the franchise's bowling coach for the previous two seasons.

This coaching appointment follows recent announcements by Delhi Capitals naming former India captain Sourav Ganguly as the new head coach and 2011 World Cup-winner Yuvraj Singh as the batting and assistant coach. The team welcomed Vaas on social media, referring to him as a World Cup winner and Sri Lanka's best ever.

Throughout his career, Vaas has built extensive coaching experience. He has previously served as the bowling coach for the Sri Lankan men’s team across three separate stints, which included an initial appointment from 2013 to 2015 and subsequent re-hirings following a brief coaching contract with New Zealand and a stint as Ireland’s bowling coach for the T20 World Cup in 2016. During his playing days in the Indian Premier League, Vaas represented the now-defunct Deccan Chargers from 2008 to 2010.
