On Saturday, October 17, 2026, the Delhi Capitals franchise appointed former Sri Lanka pacer Chaminda Vaas as their fast-bowling coach ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League season. Vaas steps into this role to replace Munaf Patel, who served as the team's bowling coach for the previous two seasons. The appointment is part of a revamped support staff for the Delhi franchise, which is jointly owned by the GMR Group and the JSW Group and is still searching for its maiden IPL title.

Chaminda Vaas stands as one of Sri Lanka's most successful bowlers, claiming 355 wickets in 111 Test matches and 400 wickets in One Day Internationals. He was notably a key member of Sri Lanka's 1996 World Cup-winning team and earned renown for his accuracy, ability to swing the new ball, and effectiveness across various conditions. During his playing career in the IPL, Vaas represented the now-defunct Deccan Chargers from 2008 to 2010. His prior coaching experience includes three separate stints as the Sri Lankan men's team's bowling coach, a brief contract with New Zealand, and a role as Ireland's bowling coach for the T20 World Cup in 2016.

Within the Delhi Capitals backroom staff, Vaas joins a team led by head coach Sourav Ganguly, alongside former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, who has taken on the role of batting and assistant coach. The franchise experienced changes following the transition in management, as JSW takes over management duties from the GMR Group for the biennial cycle ending in 2026. Consequently, the team parted ways with former India players Venugopal Rao as director of cricket, Hemang Badani as head coach, and Patel as bowling coach, as the franchise prepares for the next IPL season.
