New Delhi: Banks are scheduled to remain closed in several states on Monday, October 19, 2026, on account of Mahanavami, Durga Puja and other regional festivals. However, the holiday will not apply uniformly across India, as bank closures depend on the state-specific holiday calendar issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
According to the holiday information provided, bank branches will remain closed in Tripura, Mizoram, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Meghalaya. Uttar Pradesh and Kerala have also been listed among the states observing a holiday on October 19.
The closures are linked to religious observances such as Mahanavami, Maha Ashtami, Durga Puja, Dussehra, Vijaya Dashami and Ayudha Pooja. Customers are advised to check the applicable RBI holiday calendar before visiting their local bank branch.
October includes several other bank holidays, depending on the state, including Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, Mahalaya Amavasya, Lakshmi Puja, Karva Chauth and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birthday.
Under the usual banking schedule, branches remain closed on Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. Other Saturdays are generally working days unless a specific holiday applies.
Despite branch closures, customers can continue using most digital banking services. Internet banking, mobile banking applications, Unified Payments Interface (UPI), online fund transfers and bill payments generally remain available on holidays. ATMs also continue to provide supported services.
Some transactions requiring in-person verification or branch processing may be delayed until the next working day.
Customers should verify local branch timings and state-specific holidays through the official RBI calendar or their bank’s website before planning banking activities.
