New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty, honouring their courage, dedication and commitment to protecting the nation since Independence.

Addressing a gathering in Delhi, Shah said the occasion was dedicated to remembering the brave police officers and personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the country. He highlighted the invaluable contributions of police forces across India and acknowledged their role in maintaining law and order, safeguarding citizens and protecting national security.

“Today, we have gathered here to pay tribute to those brave police personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of the nation, from the time of Independence to the present day,” Shah said.

The Home Minister emphasised that, over nearly eight decades since Independence, countless police personnel have demonstrated extraordinary courage and selflessness while carrying out their duties. Their sacrifices, he noted, remain an enduring symbol of service to the nation and reflect the dedication with which police forces continue to fulfil their responsibilities.

Police personnel often operate in challenging and dangerous circumstances, confronting threats to public safety and national security. Their work requires discipline, resilience and a strong sense of duty, particularly when dealing with terrorism, organised crime, violence and other security challenges.

Shah's tribute underscored the importance of remembering those who lost their lives while protecting the public and upholding the law. Their contribution continues to inspire serving personnel and future generations to carry forward the values of courage, integrity and patriotism.

The gathering also served as a reminder of the responsibility to recognise the sacrifices made by security personnel and their families. While the nation benefits from their service and commitment, the families of those who die in the line of duty bear an immense personal loss.

The tribute reaffirmed the nation's gratitude towards police personnel who have devoted their lives to public service. Their bravery and sacrifice remain an integral part of India's history, reflecting an unwavering commitment to the safety, security and well-being of its people.
