Senior Indian politician and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani was admitted to Apollo Hospital in New Delhi on Friday evening due to a chest infection. The 98-year-old leader arrived at the medical facility at approximately 7.30 pm and was placed in the intensive care unit under the care of Dr Vinit Suri, Senior Consultant in Neurology. Hospital officials confirmed that his condition is currently stable and that he remains under close medical observation in the pulmonary department while medical tests are underway.
LK Advani previously experienced health complications earlier this year in May, when he was admitted to the same hospital for age-related issues before being discharged after a few days. As a prominent figure in Indian politics, Advani is recognized as a key architect behind the rise of the Bharatiya Janata Party, having served as party president across three separate terms between 1986 and 2005. His political career includes serving as Union Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister during the National Democratic Alliance government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as well as holding the position of Information and Broadcasting Minister in the late 1970s. In 2024, his contributions to the nation were formally recognized when he received the Bharat Ratna, which is India's highest civilian honour.
Medical professionals continue to monitor the veteran leader closely as testing proceeds. Further updates regarding his health and expected discharge will be provided by hospital officials and his medical team as his condition develops.
