US President Donald Trump stated he does not believe Russia or China are helping Iran amid its current conflict with the United States and Israel, cautioning that both nations have too much to lose by backing Tehran.
Writing on Truth Social, Trump pushed back against assertions made by political opponents that Moscow and Beijing were aiding Iran. He noted that if any support exists, it is minimal, though he personally doubts it occurs at all. Previously in July, Trump cautioned Russia and China against intervening in the hostilities, stating it would prove detrimental to them, and he has characterized Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping as remaining neutral in the conflict.
The military hostilities began when the United States and Israel conducted strikes on Iran on February 28. This action prompted retaliatory attacks by Iran targeting Israel as well as Gulf nations that house US military bases.
Despite these dynamics, Moscow and Beijing retain strong connections with Tehran. Russia previously cautioned that the ongoing conflict might spark a nuclear arms race across the Middle East. Meanwhile, China formally condemned the US attacks on Iran, describing them as an infringement upon its sovereignty.
