Nearly three-quarters of Taiwan’s population hold a negative opinion of the Chinese Communist Party, with unfavorable views remaining widespread across various demographics, according to polling expert Tai Li-an and reported by The Taipei Times.

The survey, conducted in Taipei and discussed on October 28, found that 73.5 percent of respondents viewed the CCP unfavorably, which is unchanged from the previous month, while 8.9 percent expressed a favorable opinion, marking a 1.4 percentage point increase. Tai Li-an noted that the proportion of Taiwanese with negative opinions has consistently stayed between 60 and 70 percent since monthly surveys began in 2015. Negative perceptions exceeded 75 percent among women, residents of central Taiwan and specific regions, adults aged 20 to 49, university graduates, and supporters of the pan-green political camp.

Significant reservations were also recorded among pan-blue supporters, who are traditionally associated with closer cross-strait engagement. Specifically, 53.7 percent of pan-blue respondents viewed the party negatively, compared to 30.2 percent with favorable opinions. Among KMT supporters, 50.3 percent expressed unfavorable views and 34 percent viewed the CCP positively. Even among deep-blue voters supporting the KMT and opposing the Democratic Progressive Party, negative perceptions stood at 46.8 percent, surpassing the 40.9 percent who held favorable views. Furthermore, among politically unaffiliated respondents, only 3.1 percent expressed favorable views, while 62.5 percent held negative opinions. The poll additionally examined attitudes toward Taiwan's economic situation and President William Lai’s performance, revealing that among respondents dissatisfied with Lai’s leadership, 60.4 percent viewed the CCP unfavorably and 19.4 percent expressed positive opinions.
