Six inmates successfully escaped from the Dolpa district prison by digging a four-metre tunnel, according to police reports. The breakout involved four convicted prisoners and two detainees.

The escape is believed to have occurred on Friday night, though the exact time remains unestablished by authorities. The incident was discovered around 6am on Saturday during a routine inmate count by prison officials, as stated by Chief District Officer Junu Hamal Dhakal.

Among the individuals who fled, four were serving sentences for theft and rape cases, while the remaining two were detainees awaiting trial. Deputy Superintendent of Police Anil Raj Giri of the District Police Office in Dolpa confirmed that the tunnel measured about four metres in length, extending from the interior of the inmates' holding room to the exterior of the facility.

Prison officials noted that the inmates appeared to have systematically dug their way out of the compound. Further details regarding the ongoing investigation and the search for the escaped individuals are currently awaited.
