Russia and China have emphasized the importance of preserving Sudan's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity during a United Nations Security Council session held on Friday in New York.
Vassily Nebenzia, Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, addressed the session by calling for necessary measures to launch a political process and dialogue among Sudanese parties. Nebenzia stated that the Sovereign Council of Sudan is the country's legitimate authority and noted that government authorities have made significant progress in North and South Kordofan by preventing El Obeid from falling to rebels.
During the same UN Security Council meeting, the Chinese representative stressed the need to uphold fairness and justice while respecting Sudan's sovereignty and opposing any parallel government. The Chinese official highlighted that the Sudanese government enjoys broad popular support and should be backed in implementing peace initiatives, inclusive national dialogues, and a Sudanese-led political process.
Both nations underscored that external powers must be prevented from imposing solutions on Sudan, asserting that pressure and coercion cannot achieve a lasting peace.
