The opposition INDIA bloc staged a symbolic mock impeachment of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), involving opposition Members of Parliament and citizens, as part of a protest against the functioning of the Election Commission.

During the programme, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi levelled serious allegations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing them of electoral manipulation. The event was organised to highlight the opposition's concerns over the electoral process and the role of the Election Commission in ensuring free and fair elections.

The symbolic exercise drew political attention, with opposition leaders using the platform to voice their criticism of the ruling government and raise questions about the independence and credibility of the country's electoral institutions.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), however, strongly dismissed the mock parliament and criticised the opposition's programme. BJP leaders described the exercise as politically motivated and took aim at Rahul Gandhi over his participation.

Responding to the event, BJP leader Sambit Patra mocked the Congress leader, remarking that Rahul Gandhi should be allowed to become Prime Minister only in the mock parliament.

The exchange has further intensified the political confrontation between the ruling BJP and the opposition INDIA bloc, with both sides trading accusations over democratic institutions, electoral integrity and political leadership.
