Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has highlighted that trade barriers are widening India's trade imbalance with China by restricting Indian businesses from entering the Chinese market. This growing gap creates challenges for Indian exporters, increases reliance on Chinese imports, and emphasizes the requirement for enhanced market access and balanced trade relations between the two nations.

Sitharaman pointed out these persistent trade restrictions during an interaction with the Atlantic Council on the sidelines of the IMF-World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday. She stated that the trade deficit has kept growing despite nearly ten years of attempts to achieve better access for Indian products in China.

Her comments emphasize the ongoing difficulties in India-China trade relations as New Delhi pursues fairer opportunities for domestic companies within one of the largest consumer markets globally. The widening trade deficit has prompted renewed attention regarding market access and economic balance.
