Dr Liang: A Lifetime in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Reputation in Almaty

Dr Liang has built a strong reputation and practice as a traditional Chinese doctor in Almaty, Kazakhstan, where he has worked full-time since 2010. While mainstream medical treatments predominate in the country, Traditional Chinese Medicine is readily available as an alternative, and Dr Liang is regularly overbooked without needing extensive advertising.

Dr Liang is originally from Chengdu in China's Sichuan Province. His medical career dates back to the 1960s after he studied at the Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and worked in clinical practice and family planning. He later relocated to Ningxia, Wuhan, and then Urumqi, where a chance meeting with an ethnic Kazakh patient suffering from kidney problems, back pain, prostatitis, and BPH symptoms changed his trajectory. After successfully treating the patient, who later started his own company and became wealthy, Dr Liang was invited to Almaty.

Although he initially visited Almaty briefly in February 2000 to treat patients with various maladies alongside colleagues including a TCM acupuncturist, he eventually settled there permanently. He finds it rewarding to work in Almaty because he considers the local people to be well educated, hospitable, polite, and nice, noting that the lifestyle is good and the air is fresher. Today, many of his patients are regulars who return year after year, bring their entire families, and have developed a strong faith in his treatments.
