The Congress party has raised concerns over a substantial gap of 1,57,752 between Nagaland's pre-revision electorate and the enumeration forms received during the recent electoral roll revision. Addressing a press conference in Kohima on Tuesday, All India Congress Committee observer Pranav Shagotra announced that the party is demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities and claimed collusion with national leaders.
During the briefing, party officials detailed figures from specific districts, noting untraced voters in regions including Mokokchung, Zunheboto, Wokha, Longleng, and Tuensang. Shagotra argued that such electoral discrepancies could impact election outcomes, particularly in smaller states with narrow victory margins. He further alleged that the Election Commission initially provided paper copies instead of electronic records requested by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to hinder the scrutiny of duplicate registrations and deleted entries.
In response, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee president S Supongmeren Jamir stated that election authorities assured the party there was no intentional manipulation or deliberate deletion. Jamir noted that discrepancies might stem from residents shifting locations, duplicate entries, or electronic removals, adding that house-to-house verifications and Booth Level Agent reviews are ongoing. The Congress party stated it will continue examining the records and submit verified findings to its leadership.
