Cities across central Iran are taking steps to mitigate the consequences of economic sanctions and U.S. airstrikes, as local manufacturing and everyday life remain under considerable pressure from the ongoing conflict. The U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict has inflicted severe damage across the country, destroying civilian institutions such as schools and sports venues in deadly airstrikes.

In Khomein, a city in Markazi province with fewer than 100,000 residents, incomplete statistics indicate that more than 29 civilian facilities were damaged. Mayor Vahid Baratizadeh stated that 21 residents were killed, 13 homes were completely destroyed, and over 1,000 houses suffered damage in the explosions. Municipal departments immediately initiated reconstruction, enabling residents to return to damaged homes within days or weeks, while work continues on completely destroyed sites.

Concurrently, Markazi province, a major industrial hub, faces the dual pressures of war threats and ongoing U.S. economic sanctions. Factories are ramping up production to stabilize domestic supply. Hamidifard, a manager at Iran Combine Harvester Company in Arak, explained that production continued during peak conflict periods and that companies are increasingly localizing manufacturing to bypass the U.S. blockade, substituting previously imported parts with domestic technological innovation and strategic components.

Addressing the military and economic threats, Markazi province governor Mehdi Zandyeh Vakili noted that while commodity prices have risen, basic needs and daily necessities remain largely self-sufficient. Local officials assert that sanctions will no longer prove effective against Iran moving forward.
