Axis Bank released its financial results for the second quarter of fiscal year 27 on Saturday, announcing a 37.6 percent year-on-year increase in net profit to Rs 7,003.3 crore. Although the private sector lender experienced strong growth, the reported net profit fell short of market expectations set by a CNBC TV18 poll, which had predicted a net profit of Rs 7,132 crore. Conversely, the bank's net interest income surpassed analysts' estimates by rising 11.8 percent to reach Rs 15,371.4 crore compared to the projected Rs 14,970 crore. Furthermore, the bank observed improvements in its overall asset quality during the July through September period.
During the quarter, Axis Bank posted an operating profit of Rs 11,083 crore, reflecting a 6 percent year-on-year increase, while its core operating profit grew by 11 percent to Rs 10,998 crore. Asset quality metrics showed a positive trend as the gross non-performing assets ratio declined to 1.16 percent from 1.46 percent a year earlier, and the net non-performing assets ratio fell to 0.35 percent from 0.44 percent. Total advances increased by 23 percent year on year to reach Rs 13.74 lakh crore as of September 30, 2026, driven by growth across retail, small and medium enterprise, and corporate loans. Total deposits also grew by 21 percent year on year to touch Rs 14.52 lakh crore on a month-end basis.
Looking ahead, managing director and CEO Amitabh Chaudhry stated that the bank remains focused on digital payments, secure banking, artificial intelligence-driven innovation, and strategic partnerships to further strengthen its offerings for customers.
