The Assam Legislative Assembly dismissed claims that the Bodo language had been removed from the building, clarifying that no decision or action was initiated to remove it. In Guwahati on Saturday, the Assembly released a statement explaining that confusion arose due to ongoing repair work on the front façade of the building.

The controversy began after the reported removal of the Bodo nameplate triggered strong objections from the All Bodo Students’ Union. Central president Khaoromdao Wary expressed displeasure on Friday, describing the incident as a symbolic act of exclusion and an insult to the community's political and cultural identity resulting from decades of struggle.

Following the uproar, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reaffirmed the government's commitment to preserving and promoting Bodo as an integral part of Assam’s shared cultural identity. Tagging Assembly Speaker Ranjit Kumar Dass in a social media post, Sarma emphasized that the Assembly would carry forward this commitment to give the language the recognition it deserves.

While the Assembly stated that no action to remove the language was taken, ABSU leaders maintained that the issue involves broader constitutional and legal safeguards for the community. The episode brings renewed attention to the status of Bodo in Assam.
