Caracas, Venezuela: In a reported first-of-its-kind military operation, Venezuelan armed forces allegedly attacked a camp belonging to Colombia’s National Liberation Army (ELN), killing at least 19 people inside Venezuelan territory on October 30, 2026.
The reported strike occurred in Buena Vista del Meta, in Venezuela’s Apure state, near the Colombian border. According to human rights organisation FundaRedes, the operation targeted an ELN camp in a remote area. Reports indicate that drones and attack helicopters were deployed during the assault.

Former Venezuelan National Assembly deputy Juan Francisco García Escalona reported the incident, citing local testimonies. The operation has also renewed scrutiny of allegations concerning connections between Venezuelan officials and Colombian rebel organisations.
Nine bodies were initially reported, with the death toll subsequently rising to 19. Several injured individuals reportedly crossed into Colombian territory.
For years, Colombian authorities have accused elements within Venezuela of allowing armed rebel groups to operate across the border.
Security analysts suggest the reported strike could signal a significant change in Venezuela’s military approach toward Colombian insurgents.
However, Venezuelan authorities have not publicly confirmed all details of the operation, and independent verification of the casualties remains limited
